Last week I went on a four-day holiday with my wife and family to Disney World in Lake Buena Vista/ Kissimmee. For those who are not familiar and to the layman, Orlando.
The last time I went to Disney was about two years ago and only went to Epcot. The funny thing is every time I meet with any family for Disney, and I had some scheduling restrictions because of whatever job I had, but every time I always met them when they were going to Epcot.
For the first time in quite a long time, I was able to go to the other theme parks. Except for Epcot, I’ve had my fill of it for a while!
Although most of the parks looked the same, I’ve noticed the changes in the aesthetics and updates to keep the parks relevant. The most notable experience was the Pandora section themed after James Cameron’s Avatar. And, of course, Galaxy’s Edge themed after Star Wars.
I would be lying if I said Galaxy’s Edge wasn’t the highlight of my trip. The whole trip felt centered around that section at Hollywood Studios.
Yes, let me get it out of how I went to the other parks and had fun. In fact, I went to Animal Kingdom twice. Once with my wife and the second time with my family on our last day. It was up to me I would’ve gone to Hollywood Studios twice to get my fill, but that wasn’t how it played out.
Galaxy’s Edge was a fun and engaging experience for my wife and me. On my second day, which was my family’s first day, we went to Hollywood Studios, and we made our way to the Star Wars themed section. It was my first time as it was for my wife and my family.
With such a well-made constructed set, I felt like I was on a Star Wars type planet. It was all the more engaging because my wife and I dressed up. She dressed in an outfit themed after Ahsoka Tano, and I dressed up as a smuggler-type character (a Han Solo-type inspiration, if you will).
Being dressed up in this sort of cosplay added to the whole experience because when we did the Smuggler’s Run, it immersed me in the experience of being a smuggler pilot. As a stormtrooper harassed my wife because thinking she might have been a spy. I, too, was harassed by a First Order officer during the Rise of the Resistance ride. Being the smartass smuggler that I was, I gave him the business to give him the information he wants if the First Order was willing to give up the right amount of credits.
The adorable part was my wife getting compliments from little girls who liked her dress. Just absolutely cute when a girl would pass her and mentioned it.
My wife, my brothers, a brother’s girlfriend, and I got to as a unit build our lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop. We got lucky, though, because we were supposed to schedule the attraction at least 60 days in advance. It also cost a lot more than I was budgeting initially, but I gave my wife $55 towards her cost, and she paid the rest. I promise to provide her with more money as it was my original intention to buy it for her. Plus, my wife did buy me the Han Solo vest, which tied my costume together. I owed her. Even though it was expensive, it was a lot of fun and I got to share it with my wife and brothers.
But that day wasn’t all about Star Wars activities, I wanted my wife to have fun and enjoy herself, and we went to the Toy Story section so she could have her fun. My wife can sometimes be too prideful and admit that she wanted to do something that she would enjoy more. She’s not much of a Star Wars fan, and up until recently, she’s more of a Star Trek fan more. I don’t hold it against it because I love her. Anyway, we did the Toy Story attractions, and she had a blast doing it.
Yes, Star Wars was fantastic and as was the Pandora and everything else I experienced at Disney World. I would love to go back again, but not during summer. All that walking around and the humid heat was exhausting. Fun fact: I might’ve been in costume and not the usual shorts and shirt; I wasn’t that hot in my outfit! That’s a win in my book.
And hopefully, I get to go back again.
