As I am writing this post, I am reaching the first year of my marriage to my wife. Exciting times, indeed. To have a companion as loving and supportive as she, I cannot help but feel so fortunate in my life. We complement and play off each other so very well.
She has been pushing, or should I say she’s been encouraging me to pursue the side hustle of voice overwork. Liking the many voices that I do, and impersonations that I portray, she’s often cited that I should just do it already.
After going to another geek culture based convention, I spoke to two established voice actors who offer their advice. Finally, I pulled the trigger and began looking into what it takes to be a voice actor and do voice overwork. One has to be able to speak clear, enunciate, but also has to act. Emphasis on that “acting” aspect of it.
Deciding where I should start, I looked into works of fiction that are under public domain, or fair use, category. Examples of public domain works include Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, and Conan the Barbarian.
In doing my research, I’ve stumbled onto an organization that is looking for volunteers to read work that is in the public domain. They feature short stories, poetry, and novels. All of which can be read, posted and shared online for people to consume.
I’ve threw my hat into it and look forward into this new venture.
This new little journey I’m taking should not interfere with my activity of writing. I’ve finished my second draft of my novella and still looking to work with an acquaintance who runs his own publishing business. Since this is my first work, I want to make sure I do all the steps correctly and with attention to the details.
There are things in the works, and projects that are happening, and though I have a few of them, I must pay attention to where my attention is allocated. It is important that when I put on my hat, that I’m not wearing another hat which could throw a whole process or procedure off-kilter.
