Writer’s Journal #10

I’ve completed the first draft of the short novel (novella) I’ve been working on for the last few months. The original intention was to make it a short story, but I exceeded the word limit and went for the one up! True story, and that’s how it went.

Then I wanted to have the story self-published by the end of August, but things have changed with that. Now, I want to make sure I’m putting out a quality product that I’ve put my most possible amount of myself into the story’s quality.

My wife has read it, and she’s liked it. She’s given me feedback that has been helpful to get it just right or sufficient for people to read. However, she’s not a professional proofreader, so I went to someone who runs a company and is my acquaintance.

I’ve sent him several pages and received direction on how I should narrate the story, where the perspective should be, etc. Helpful stuff, but it means postponing the release I wanted. This is necessary because if I want to call myself a professional, then I shouldn’t be afraid of calling for help. Writing and being a published writer is something I want to be because I’ve had stories form my head all the time since I was a wee lad.

My wife is so supportive, and my cheerleader has been wonderful. And I’m glad I married her and her life partner. I intend to put all of me as a professional into my work and something to be proud of in the end.

Those who have been following me on the podcast, If They Won’t Listen, know that I said watch out for an end-of-the-month release. I want to apologize now, but I promise you that I will work up a quality product every step of the way.
So thank you.

In the meantime, though, I will make sure to release those other chapters from my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I was terrible about that, and again I am sorry. Please be on the lookout for the next chapter coming out soon.

Also, I decided to write a fanfiction based on the sci-fi comedy-drama Final Space. My wife and I got into the series, and we’ve been enjoying how well done the series is. I’m only at the beginning at 1000 words, but starting somewhere is better than thinking about starting it.

Thanks, everyone for reading this, and thanks for following 😊

Peace and Love,
Leon Andrews

  1. You are right. Starting somewhere is much better than thinking about starting, so you’re definitely on the right track. Wishing you all the best with your writing projects!
